Summary :
From the identification of several borders of the djiboutien space (before French Coast of Somali, then French Territory of Afars and of Issas), we visit again the colonial history of Djibouti under the angle of the manufacture of territories. We study particularly five borders which it is possible to draw on a card : the ethnic borders, the internal borders, international borders of the Earth, the railway corridor and maritime borders.
We study how these different borders were discovered or invented in Djibouti, in the general frame of the training of areas in the Horn of Africa in the XIXth century, then how they were accomplished. We analyse evolutions – of which possible strengthening – these borders up to independence. Finally we study consequences and repercussions, especially the coercion which they exercise, directly or indirectly, over the inhabitants.
