Presentation
The objective of this seminar is to return over the period of XVITH - XVIIITH century from the history of Africa and notably on what is called "Portuguese" presence . For a long time, historiography was especially interested in period said about discoveries (at the XVth end - at the Beginning of the XVIth centuries), glorious instant of this Iberian expansion, abandoning the long and nutritious time the idea of a precocious and progressive decline. It will be a question therefore of re-questioning categories, words and applied concepts and of reflecting considered areas on their pertinence according to epochs and. It indeed appears essential to highlight the specificity of each of the actors and to underline the multiplicity of experiments so as to modify the at least monolithic vision of the "Portugueses" in Africa (especially on the eastern coast) and their relations with "Africain" interlocutors who were not besides always Africa.
Besides the fact that the topic of "meeting" between Portugal and Africa puts down the whole series of questions (about which Africa it is ; which types of meetings as it is noticed ; in which length it fans out and according to which modalities ; what was the impact and what does there remain ?), this historical relation registers in a larger movement which puts Africa in a political and diplomatic game with Europe, but also with Asia. It is therefore in an optics resolutely specialist in comparative linguistics that reflexion will be able to become rich of similar problems put down on other continents, especially for the Asia.
Because it is essential for constitution and validation of a knowledge, the question of sources and of bet in writing of history will be in the middle of this reflexion.
The ambition of this research seminar is to put around the table of the confirmed researchers and beginners so that each could feed, from his experience of ground, an original reflexion and a debate, driving to the déconstruction of some categories and to the installation of an approach and renewed knowledges. It is therefore around some research tracks that we want to unite a concerned public.
