In the general frame of themes dedicated to links between war and society in the contemporary Mediterranean world which will keep us in the course of next years, the academic year 2008-2009 will be dedicated to the different faces of the combatant, of the robber of honour in the mujahid, from the soldier to the combatant of freedom and to the militiaman. Interventions will concern the fields of the Maghreb apart equal and those of Machrek and will be at the crossroads of history and of anthropology.

Program 2006-2007
The production of the national in the contemporary Arab societies
The object of seminar will be to explore modes and process of production of the national in the contemporary Arab societies, in crossing between colonial inheritances and institutionalization of the post colonial State.
Three main dimensions will be taken into account : The building of national territorialities : phenomena of (real and symbolic) borders ; correlations between networks of social mobilisation (religious rituals in the rural or urban political rebellions) and production of territories The collective building of memo and of national imagination : historiography, school textbooks, commemoration. The production of national subject by the legal and the institutional : regulations as to nationality (faces from abroad, of the naturalizing, from the apatride) ; nomenclature and categorisations of groups according to hierarchies (of type, confession, of ethnic origin, clan membership) ; the post colonial nation and the question of border public / private.
