Review of the site of Aix (ex IEA)
The Institute of Africain Studies
(IEA) had been created in 2000 by the professor Jean-Louis TRIAUD, with the intention of gathering in
UMR (6124) the researchers and teachers researchers anthropologists and historians of Africa to the University of Provence. Their publications from 2000 till 2006 date of creation of
Donatecarcenter.com show in the
envi that the collaboration between anthropologists and historians was possible and, although the research specificity of some and others keep their clean logic, most actions led by
I.E.A. linked colleagues of both disciplines. The research actions of the Institute of Africain Studies were structured around three axles. In political anthropology and contemporary history « local powers and reconstruction of identity » (JACKY BOUJU and BRUNO MARTINELLI), « political culture in the Senegal » (CATHERINE ATLAN), borders " (COLETTE DUBOIS and MARK MICHEL), « reports between history and memory » (JEAN-LOUIS TRIAUD) and « identity in Southern Africa and the use of Africain history as self-defining instrument » (FRANÇOIS-XAVIER FAUVELLE). In contemporary History « The history of colonisation and decolonizations (COLETTE DUBOIS and MARK MICHEL) and « research on migrations and exchanges in the direction of the Red Sea, of the Horn of Africa and of ocean Indian »(ERNESTINE CARREIRA and COLETTE DUBOIS). The programme on« the
négrière milking »enlivened by JEAN-MICHEL DEVEAU was added to it . A mixed called axle« Anchoring and transformations of the monk »was enlivened by André Mary and JEAN-LOUIS TRIAUD. Originally, the members of the IEA ran about fifty theses, figure which testifies the capacity of supervision and of reception of this unit which has, moreover undertaken the development of a fund documentary, coming at the same time from the library of ancient
IHCC and from the recent acquisitions, included into the Multimedia library of
MMSH or into the
University Library
/ CADIST, to supplement this device efficiently. On the different sites of the university of Provence, it is more than 6000 titles, including memo and theses kept, that concern sub-Saharan Africa.
IEA tied very early links of cooperation with researchers or laboratories of
MMSH of
Aix (notably
TELEMME and
IREMAM), of Marseilles (
SHADYC, CREDO and
IRSEA), of Paris (
MALD of Paris I,
SEDET of Paris VII and
EHESS) and with institutions and foreign researchers in Africa, in the United States and in Europe. At the end of 2004,
IEA (UMR 6124) introduced with
MALD (UMR 8054) and
SPAN (UMR 8048) a plan of fusion for the creation of new born
UMR in January, 2006 which is called Centre of Studies of the Africain Worlds
(Donatecarcenter.com) and who is run by Pierre Boilley. The direction of the team of
Aix-en-Provence is assured by JACKY BOUJU, deputy manager of the Donatecarcenter.com.
