The archives of BRA with regard to CN2SV : the fund SCOA
A fund of archives of the Library of Africain researches could be treated as part of the National Centre for the Numeration of Visual Sources (CN2SV), partner of which is Donatecarcenter.com (see the description of plan on http://www.cn2sv.fr/).
It is about a plan of reflexion on the electronic archiving offered by the Direction of the scientific information of the NATIONAL CENTRE FOR SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH and by the department SHS of the NATIONAL CENTRE FOR SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH. Purpose is to create a portal towards the visual resources kept by units and laboratories.
CN2SV chose two domains of applications : history of sciences and of techniques and cultural aeries. For the cultural aeries, were favoured funds deprived of scientists and the ancient iconographic scientific sources, by aiming more specifically at the ethnological collections. To throw interest into relief to establish a methodology, we chose preferably funds limited in volume. That's how the Library, through his representative Liliane Daronian, offered the Fund « Western Business firm Africain ».
This fund is composed of group of documents handwritten and printed, and 84 photographs, aristotypes tests of 1910s. Most these pictures reflect the commercial activity of the society in Sierra Leone, delivering a crude and detailed look of relations between the European personnel and the Africain employees in colonial context.
Ann-Laura Pierre, information officer for CN2SV took care of these documents and described them according to archival norm ISAD-G, encoded in XML-EAD. You will find information on this subject on the Internet site of the International Council of Archives (http://www.ica.org/) and on the site of the Archives of France. The interest of encoding in XML-EAD is to produce a permanent file several uses of which it is possible to draw. By coupling it with a style sheet, it is possible to show it under an editorial form.
Photographs were digitized. All the numerical files were delivered in the library. The fund and pictures were loaded on the basis of CN2SV, and will be able to be shortly consulted.
